Forden’s is a local family-owned business that has been a staple in the San Luis Obispo community for over 80 years. Originally selling hardware and tools, then shifting the company’s focus to kitchenware, gifts, and hearth products, Forden’s had been in their downtown Monterey Street location for over 60 years; they were ready for another change. Unable to find a place large enough to house the showroom, warehouse, and administrative offices all under one roof, Forden’s owners decided to transform their existing off-site warehouse location. With an added desire to expand their showroom and not only include indoor fireplaces, a welcoming patio was incorporated to display outdoor fireplaces, BBQs, pizza ovens, and fire pits. In keeping with the historic feel of Forden’s history, a brick façade establishes the main structure of the building. Complimenting the brick is a painted steel post and beam covered entry, as well as industrial awnings that tie in the metal warehouse located at the back of the property.
